Questions / Facts Schedule Online Is Acupuncture Painful? Many people fear acupuncture due to past experiences with thicker hypodermic needles used for vaccinations or blood draws, which can be painful. In contrast, acupuncture needles are very thin, and most patients feel little to nothing, often describing the sensation as a pleasant pressure. Your comfort is our priority, and throughout the treatment, we will explain each step and welcome your feedback on your sensations. Are the Needles Sterile / Needle Depth? How deep are the needles inserted and are they sterile? Needle depth depends on the acupuncture point being used as well as the size, age, and constitution of the patient. In general, needles are inserted between 1/8th and 1 inch deep. All our licensed practitioners are nationally "Clean Needle Certified" and will always use sterile, surgical stainless steel, and disposable needles. How many sessions will you need? You might notice improvement after the first 1-2 sessions, but chronic issues may take longer. If I believe acupuncture won’t help, I’ll let you know. If results aren’t as expected, I’ll suggest a second opinion. Does my insurance cover acupuncture? Insurance companies are beginning to pay for acupuncture. John Howell L.Ac. and Marty Tarantino L.Ac. are out-of-network providers. This means that your insurance company will pay if you have out-of-network acupuncture benefits. If this is the case, you would pay the treatment cost upfront to our clinic and then we would provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. What should I wear? Please wear loose-fitting athletic shorts to allow easy access to the treatment area. The practitioner will ensure your comfort by draping you with towels and sheets. If you don't have shorts, we can provide designer options for you. What is Dry Needling? Dry needling uses thin, solid needles to release trigger points and relieve muscle pain. This technique differs from "wet needling," which involves hollow needles for injections. Usually performed by physical therapists, we provide this service as "Sports Medicine Acupuncture." What distinguishes dry needling from acupuncture? They are essentially same! Utilizing acupuncture needles to release trigger points is fundamentally acupuncture technique. It is just one of the various methods an acupuncturist may employ to your pain. While it can be highly effective, it may not be suitable for every patient or every injury at all times. 970 445 0213 Some of our practitioners have a waitlist. On our first visit, he asked all the right questions and was able to q uickly identify what was truly going on and design a treatment plan. He walked me through everything that he was going to do in our session, and went above and beyond with recommendations for my problem and continuity of car e. He is a great listener, kind and attentive. Super knowledgeable and professional. Can't recommend him enou gh! " Tati, W Johnny Howell-acupuncturist is the BEST in the valley. His skills and attention are bar none. The reception area is welcoming and calm and the staff is truly focused on well being. April, B "I had the most incredible treatment with Marty. I c ame in with reoccurring migraines, heard about Marty’s work for awhile and thought to give it a try, since nothing e lse quite worked. He worked on various elements including my digestion, and year-old pain in my shoulder - that simply disappeared during the session. I’ll come here every time I visit Vail. The rest of the staff was also very warm and welcoming." Khrys K "Every time I arrive at All Mountain Sports Acupuncture I feel as though I am among friends who are like family. My health and well being are treated as importantly by the providers and staff as they are to me. Jenelle, O "Work is love made visible” ~ Kahlil Gibran Marty Tarantino obviously loves what he does! He is professional, thoughtful, kind and incredibly helpful. His knowledge of TCM is thorough and he’s been able to help with what ails me. Highly recommend! Amy, G "Marty has been administering acupuncture treatments on me for a while now and I have to say I couldn’t be more impressed. He is super knowledgeable in the field and asks questions so he can pinpoint the trouble spots for the treatment. Additionally, you can tell he genuinely loves what he does which translates into quality. I’ve had shoulder and back issues for a while, but ever since I started seeing Marty I’ve noticed considerable improvements in both pain and movement. I’ll definitely be seeing Marty again, he’s got my back!" Shane, P "Ever since, I have been seeing Johnny Howell for neck pain that I have endured for the last fifteen years, my pain has subsided tremendously. His "straight forward" and subtle approach was comforting. Not only did he help me with my pain, but showed me postural exercises, enabling me to take much of the healing into my own hands. I have seen many specialists ranging from physical therapists, chiropractors, and massage therapists, I have never experienced quicker, longer lasting results than that of Johnny Howell." Maltese, G "Once again I had a beneficial and pleasant acupuncture session with Johnny. For the first time in many weeks I have slept through the night without joint pain and nasal congestion keeping me awake. I am always amazed at how much better I feel after these sessions. Johnny's presence is a healing factor in itself, I believe. He's extraordinary." A Message From Dr. Krystal The experience of birthing my first daughter naturally at a Birthing Center awakened a desire in me to support and empower women during the sacred cycles of their lives. My primary focus is on women’s health with a specialty in fertility, pregnancy, and aging gracefully. Knowing that Chinese Medicine is one of the most comprehensive and effective modalities for supporting women’s health, I devoted myself to a four-year rigorous academic graduate program at Daoist Traditions College of Chinese Medical Arts and received my Master’s of Oriental Medicine. I used acupuncture and herbs to prepare myself to have a successful and gentle home birth at the age of 40 with my second daughter, so I know first-hand how potent this medicine is! I believe that a well-loved and supported mother creates a healthier society. All Mountain Sports Acupuncture 970 445 0213 Schedule Online
