Many people fear acupuncture due to past experiences with thicker hypodermic needles used for vaccinations or blood draws, which can be painful. In contrast, acupuncture needles are very thin, and most patients feel little to nothing, often describing the sensation as a pleasant pressure. Your comfort is our priority, and throughout the treatment, we will explain each step and welcome your feedback on your sensations. Are the Needles Sterile / Needle Depth? How deep are the needles inserted and are they sterile? Needle depth depends on the acupuncture point being used as well as the size, age, and constitution of the patient. In general, needles are inserted between 1/8th and 1 inch deep. All our licensed practitioners are nationally "Clean Needle Certified" and will always use sterile, surgical stainless steel, and disposable needles. How many sessions will you need? You might notice improvement after the first 1-2 sessions, but chronic issues may take longer. If I believe acupuncture won’t help, I’ll let you know. If results aren’t as expected, I’ll suggest a second opinion. Does my insurance cover acupuncture? Insurance companies are beginning to pay for acupuncture.
